AAOS in BYD cars, when and how?

TheDudeFromPT | 2026-03-02 13:25 | 27 views

Hello, Early this year, there was news that BYD was changing their OS for AAOS (Android Automotive OS) in their cars. In the news, they mentioned that they roll out this update to all cars, but it's not clear if it's all cars already in production or all new cars sold. For example, if I buy a Sealion next month, will it get the AAOS update? Thank you

Hey! I can speak from personal experience — I recently got the BYD Atto 2 DM-i here in Italy, and it comes with AAOS natively out of the box. Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play Store are all built directly into the infotainment system, no phone needed. From what I understand, the key factor is the hardware generation of the specific unit that supports AAOS natively. It’s not a software update pushed to older cars. So for your Sealion question: I’d specifically ask the dealer whether that unit ships with AAOS pre-installed

Thank you! I will try to get the info from the dealer. Sadly, I don't think they will know about this, they are more "sellers" than anything else. It would be nice for BYD to list the models that will have the AAOS, and from when.

Let us know if you find out

My 2026 Yuan up lux doesn’t appear to have AAOS. I imagine if they’d announce which are getting it when, many wouldn’t buy the modals for sale now. I just hope they continue supporting and creating new features for the current OS

Nobody knows. You will only know when it happens.

That's my idea also. With AAOS, they will just maintain the old one and that's it...

The Sealion is already based on Android. So an AAOS could be possible, as it is likely that the Sealion 7 already uses the SA8155P chip (according to some google results)

Would be great, Got the little Atto 1/ surf, and I’ve been trying to sideload apps, and it just blocks me. Don’t want to go into browser and allow unsigned apps (though feels like I have to do that). But, it would be great to have this out the box

Being based on Android is the same as phones, tablets, watches, TVs are based on Android. The AAOS is specific for cars. I would think the head unit must have an architecture that allows to change from the current OS to one based on AAOS.

I think BYD already works on the migration. That's why the SL7 got an update in October and none in December like the other models. But that's just my hypothesis
