How to stop charging

Are you talking about AC charging or DC fast charging? If it's AC, you can use the scheduled charge function as a workaround to stop charging. Just set it to start at a later time and then it'll stop and enter idling mode waiting for the time to start charging again. Scheduled charge doesn't work with DC. However, usually, if you just press the button on the gun (DO NOT UNPLUG, just press the button) that should stop the charge, either on AC or DC. Some AC chargers I've seen won't stop and then users would still unplug and cause damage to the charger and the car with electrical arcs. Just double check and make sure there is no current flowing into the car before you unplug. Roll down a window if you can't see the instrument cluster screen where the incoming charging power shows up.

Wouldn't wonder, SEAL U DMI same. You can't start, nor stop over APP. Either starts immediately after plugging in connector or configure delay by setting time. Poor in 2026. But there might be a background, I believe that in China, most people charge public. Here is stopping most of the times is not needed. I charge 100% only at home,

I had difficulty getting my SL7 to stop charging at a Tesla fast charger recently. Discovered from Gemini that pressing the manual unlock button in the driver door 3 times stopped the charging and enabled me to release the cable.

I haven't seen a button on any of the chargers I've used. For AC chargers, whenever I unlock my car, the car stops the charge (maybe for a little while? The display shows 0W) and that's when I unplug.

You can start and stop by using the schedule function.

Quickly press the unlock button on the key fob 2 times, this will stop the charge.

If you're american, type 1 connectors function differently from the type 2 connectors present in europe. Type 2 connectors have a hole in them and a pin from inside the car's socket locks it in while it's charging; when you unlock the car, the charging stops momentarily and the pin lifts up allowing you to remove the connector. Arcing should not be possible unless something went very wrong. I've also never seen a button on type 2 connectors, idk if that's a common thing on type 1s

The only chargers I've seen with a button are Tesla CCS2 connectors, and it's only used by Teslas.

That is mainly useful for DC Fast Charging though. During AC Charging the car temporarily stops the charge just by unlocking the vehicle.

Doesn't work if you used tap to pay on the charger screen. Only way to stop in that case is from the car itself. Pressing unlock a few times (at least 2) is enough to stop charging.

assuming  i am charging AC on a public charger, and i just want to get in the car while the charging continues... doesn't this method cause the charging session to be interrupted? would be annoying if there is a flat starting fee on the public charger. is there a way of getting into the car without interrupting the AC charging?

The charging session doesn't stop until you physically remove the plug from the car, but it does stop drawing power temporarily to reduce risk of arcing

In general I'm super happy but there are exactly this little things, which other have since 5 years implemented by design. E.g. they implemented with the update, starting and stopping engine with the app, for instance this is useless, stopping and starting charging would have been a much smarter feature

are you sure your method doesnt only apply to DC charging?

It's extremely useful when you have the anti-theft enabled so you can just unlock your car and go, especially if you were at home

Yeah, I agree with you, and I want a feature to stop charging at 80%. They can make it charge to 100% once every X charges if they want, but it makes no sense to force me to charge to 100% every time, degrading the battery faster.

Can confirm, starts charging again after 30-60s or upon re-locking

Update: this is wrong see below comments. My Seal has the ability to set a limit and also charging times. Dolphin should be the same but not 100% sure. Look at the Smart charging options in the menus

Okay ignore me sorry, was being stupid. In the smart charge it has schedule start time and finish at specific time OR at 100% OR scheduled departure. I confused it with my Audi which only has charge target at scheduled departure but not a start stop time which is more useful. With the BYD manual recommending a 100% charge one a week why would anyone want to limit it to lower?

Because it's not good for the battery to stay at 100% for long. It only needs to go to 100% once in a while for the charge controller to calibrate the display.

I understand the BYD battery technology is happy to sit at 100%. Other manufacturers batteries don’t any they go out of their way to make sure you only top up to 80% unless absolutely needed.

They all do. I mean the latch, the little hook, the thing has a million names in different languages. The little thing that you press to release the charging connector.

I'm Costa Rican and BYDs use GBT over here 😅 I've never seen a charger with no latch. I never thought to look that closely at foreign videos from the US and Europe.
