BYD car purchase legit?

lords_o_leaping | 2026-02-17 22:27 | 20 views

I’m speaking to a relative who’s a bit of an impulse buyer. I found out that they’ve been in correspondence with a representative of this company “allegedly” over the purchase of a vehicle. 1. The relative saw this via TikTok video and contacted through an attached email. 2. From what I’m reading in their convos, it’s setting up for a choice in model and car interior, requesting full name and address before sending anything. I flat out don’t believe this is how you go and buy a car from this company. Through email is beyond sketchy. Are there no locations to visit?

Buying a car through tiktok. You can't make that shit up.

Not sure if you are a troll looking at your other post or just american ignorant. BYD is the biggest EV car manufacturer in the world. Google is free. If you don't live in a country where you can go to a dealer and buy it, there could be sketchy importers all over the place. Not sure if you should trust them.

>Are there no locations to visit? If you even mentioned what country your relative lives in, we could perhaps narrow it down.

Definitely not trolling, I just post questions about video game stuff mostly. You can imagine as someone seeing an older relative in this situation, you’d worry and try to find answers at the very least.

Definitely a scam, please try and prevent this.

Scam scam scam. If they want a car, go to a dealer. If they’re so-called TikTok deal is too good to be true, then it probably is.

And instead of googling one of the biggest companies in the world, you go to their specific reddit? My guy you need to learn basic life skills

sounds sketchy as fuck, but you wont be able to convince them otherwise.

I did google, really only found review videos, and generally stuff I’m not familiar with. I’d expect people on a sub Reddit dedicated to the company/car would have some advice, maybe they purchased it before, or are familiar with how you buy through this company. There’s a reason people look to Reddit for answers after doing their own searching. Sometimes the predicament is too niche, or an actual human view is desired over a companies blurb.

BYD have a website where you can order your car. They have dealerships where you can order your car. AFAIK they don't take car orders through TikTok. Your relative is probably getting scammed. And FFS why would anyone go through an app like TikTok for a car purchase when the company offers legitimate ways to purchase online.

Nah mate, If I search BYD, wikipedia is second just after the official australian website where you can buy it here. This subreddit is mostly Australian people as the company is mostly in non english speaking countries. In europe as well, but it is taxed at double the price as otherwise it would wipe out the whole european car makers. This is why it is banned in the us. Luckily in Australia, we don't have any car brands manufacturer, meaning is a free market where, since BYD and many other chinese brands came they are absolutely demolishing the competitors for how good the cars are.

I see, this actually helps my case with them. So far I convinced them against the choice. Also interesting this sub Reddit is Australian for those reasons, I thought I was talking to a global audience sort of. Thanks for the info!

it is a scam. Walk away. Hope no money was passed on yet. Read about it somewhere a few days ago.
