Broken mirror

So, today It happened. An old person decided to cross outside of a pedestrian pass, behind a van, and I had to swerve to avoid hitting her. I hit the rearview mirror and I broke a small piece of it. Now, I have two options: \- The official repair shop is quoting me around 400-500 euros for the repair, saying that they need to order the full piece \- I have found what I think is the exact piece for 30 euros in aliexpre s, as it should be only the plastic cover. i could bring this to a non-official workshop and ask them to install it. What would you do? Also, 350 euros for a rearview mirror, goddamn.

Don’t ask others what they would do. It depends on everyone's wallet, including yours. Normally it is not the same for everyone

If the damage is only to the plastic, go for the replacement part. If any electronics are involved, such as cameras or retraction systems, it's best to take it to the dealership.

As long no warranty void , just go for the cheapest one , it’s clearly the plastic is overcharged

I got lightly hit in back door and bumper and dealership replaced whole door and it took them a while to do it. On my question why it’s taking so long they explained that they have to calibrate all sensors and cameras again. So in your case, check if all sensors and cameras related to this mirror are working as supposed and if nothing is distorted then go for aliexpress.

Actually that price doesn't seem outrageous to me. My boss was quoted AUS $5,800 to replace the side view mirror and housing on her 2021 Lexus RX350... Yes $5800. She ended up getting just the mirror for the bargain price of just $1300
