What does this symbol mean?

ing-tobi | 2026-02-15 08:31 | 39 views

Yesterday, a clock symbol appeared on the display of my BYD Seal 6 Touring. It's located where traffic signs (intersection or yield) are normally shown. The symbol isn't described in the owner's manual.

You have activated time-machine mode. Maintain 88 km/h.

In the Netherlands it means you drove past a board that has different speeds for different times. So for example between 6 am and 7 pm you can drive only 100 km per hour, outside of those hours you may drive 120 km per hour

Pale_Emergency_537 2026-02-15 09:20

It's 3 o clock

AurumNoble 2026-02-15 10:05

Timed speed limit. Some countries like the Netherlands have different speed limits for different times, which is novel to sign recognition software, hence why it doesn't get explained in the manual.

TIL

The rest of the world doesn't have a different speed limit during day and night? If not, that's new to me. Thought everywhere had a different speed limit during different times

ParanoidAndroidMV 2026-02-15 14:50

Never heard of it before, in Brazil or US

zilyzal 2026-02-15 14:51

TIL.

Not something I have seen in Denmark before either. Might be a thing of course, but not at any larger scale. At best we might see different speed enforcements depending on your vehicle type in some zones (regular speed 80km/h, if truck/camper/trailer, then 70km/h as an example)

We have it in New Zealand but only in school zones where speed drops around school hours then normal outside of that - most now are replaced by digital speed signs that update depending on the time of day though.

Beijing are tracking your 0 - 60 pulls and silently judging you Seriously though, no idea

ing-tobi 2026-02-15 21:10

Okay, that's a good idea. I'll drive the same route soon and keep an eye out for signs with time-dependent speed limits.

SexyDraenei 2026-02-15 23:05

Only place I have seen them in Australia is around schools, where the limit is lower around school start and finish times. and the signs aren't even standardised, so there is no way the car can read them properly.

Germany has it working hours on working days for children crossing near kindergartens or at night time in hpusing areas.

Thewiggler2000 2026-02-16 09:54

Wait till the cars keeps saying 4,3,2…..1 kabooom

zzay 2026-02-16 12:03

mr_jpp 2026-02-16 18:11

I’ve been caught out like that before. I was driving through a school zone in the middle of the day, so I assumed it was back to a 60, but that particular school zone was a 40 zone from 7 am until 4 pm. I was so mad.

SexyDraenei 2026-02-17 05:45

we should just teach kids to not run into the road. or let natural selection take its course.
