Alloy lacquer peeling

hellopeeple | 2026-02-08 18:46 | 29 views

Hey folks, I have a 2024 Dolphin (purchased in July) and following a wash today, I noticed that one of the alloys is showing signs of peeling lacquer which is a little concerning. I always hand wash my cars myself and use PH neutral products so I'm very confused why this has happened. Something similar had happened to my Mazda6 a few years ago - Mazda recognised an issue globally and replaced the set of alloys free of charge. Anybody else experienced anything similar with their BYD? Should I ask BYD to look into this?

Did you power wash your wheels?

OptimusTron222 2026-02-08 20:22

How are you supposed to wash wheels?

OptimusTron222 2026-02-08 20:22

Maybe some rock chipped it and the paint is damaged l, does not seem to be paint damage from high breaking temps

Notice it's happening in multiple spots along that paint/diamond cut line so I'm struggling to believe it's a single rock chip

Well obviously a power wash or some good old product and elbow greaae but Depends how powerful the power wash is theres power washes that can strip paint off your car like a sand blaster same case for the lacquer on the alloys

Usually if the pressure it’s too high there will be paint damage in the car body too! Idk, my only set of wheels that was damaged like that did get a lot of heat because of very strong breaking on autobahn, which burned the whole paint on the inside of the wheel, but this doesn’t look like it

OptimusTron222 2026-02-08 20:41

I do not think you drive too fast! Doesn’t seem like the wheel paint is burned!

Could be many things going on 😅🤷

That paint seems to be very delicate, either some manufacturing issue or those are of trash quality altogether

I use a sponge and a bucket of car wash detergent... you might be amazed to know the same bucket and car wash used to wash the car can be used here. After the wash I rinse off with a garden hose. Amazing, I know.

I had the same issue on my atto3 and got the caps replaced under warranty

And I use a pressure washes, the classic bucket ofc and also after the first clean use the soecific anti brake dust spray and rinse it again. The powerwash machine helps a lot too so not sure what exactly you wanted to say, however I am sure that something on OPs case is not right with the wheel paint peeling like that

You asked how we should wash wheels in response to a question about power washing, as if there was no alternative. I gave you the alternative.

Oh boy, you have no sense of irony I see, ChatGPT lvl awareness
