Sealion 7 - That "wub wub" noise coming from the trunk.

Good afternoon Sealion 7 owners, When I first got my Sealion 7, I was elated at how acoustically premium the vehicle felt. But one thing always bugged me, and that was when the vehicle ran through a rough patch of road. There is a very loud, low frequency "wub wub" booming noise that you can hear coming from the back. I could feel that noise in my inner ear and it was very distracting. I found a way to reduce that distinct "wub wub" noise coming from the trunk. And all for a princely sum of $6. Mass loaded vinyl! I attached a piece to the back of my rear trunk floor, and I can confidently say it reduced that noise down by about 20%. Its still there but its much less distracting than before, and most importantly bumps do not sound significantly louder coming from the back as from the front. I urge those distracted by this noise to try this out. It seems like an oversight from BYD that the floor acts like a drum amplifying suspension and tyre noises on rough roads. The two downsides of my solution is that it adds weight to the shelf, making it slightly more difficult to acces the lower section of the floor, Also, while this solution is reversible, it may leave an adhesive residue should you decide to remove the MLV. Hope it helps! PS: I do not endorse, nor discredit the brand of MLV I am using, the image is purely for reference only.

I noticed this occurs at a slow to moderate speed, with one window open, especially if it is a rear window. Opening a second window even a little bit is how I have usually dealt with it. Of course this is assuming we are referring to the same thing.

thanks for pointing out an issue that I hadn't noticed yet but will surely from now on.

Not the same thing. He’s describing a resonance that’s coming through the car body. The tyre takes an impact and everything along the way reduces that. It’s why springs have rubber isolators etc. Sometimes they miss things though, and OP seems to have solved it. What you’re referring to is an air pressure imbalance that’s uncomfortable because your ears don’t like pressure changes.

Yep, its a resonance issue with the trunk floor. Though I haven't solved it completely, it has made a markedly good improvement to noise over bumpy roads. A good upgrade, considering the price.

Yeah, makes sense.
