BYD owners — what apps do you actually use in your car?

iunknown-9 | 2026-02-03 09:51 | 29 views

Hi all 👋 For those of you driving a BYD — I’m curious: **what apps do you use most on the infotainment screen?** Let’s assume **Google Maps and Spotify are already a given** 😄 — so *other than those*, what do you actually open and find useful day-to-day? Examples could be: * YouTube / YouTube Music * Podcasts * Radio apps * Weather * Parking apps * Charging apps * Car settings / driving modes * Or anything else built into BYD’s system Also: * Are there any apps you *wish* were available but aren’t? * Anything that works surprisingly well (or badly)? Would love to hear real-world experiences — especially from European users. Thanks! 🚗⚡

Does BYD have native Tidal and Netflix apps?

Blanchy90 2026-02-03 10:04

I use Android auto 100% of the time. Spotify and Waze are always on. Waze is much better than Google maps

mstrelan 2026-02-03 10:18

No

Native apps Spotify and Navigation. Sideloaded, Aurora Store, ABRP, Electro.app.br. I often use overcast for podcasts but I personally prefer to start it on my phone and listen via Bluetooth to the car than use CarPlay these days.

This. Android auto. Spotify etc are through that. Have never used a single app on the infotainment itself.

mlhbv 2026-02-03 13:03

Apple CarPlay, navigation and climate control are the only ones for me actually

Kitchen_Cut3277 2026-02-03 18:05

No and even in browser you cant reach them

CromagnonV 2026-02-03 20:37

Android Auto so I don't have to deal with the apps on the byd given they freeze, drop out and cause the system to require a restart half the time.

Waze and Youtube music on carplay, and Balatro while waiting for the wife.

abaris-eiwar 2026-02-03 21:48

I also use Android Auto most of the time, although sound quality is significantly poorer in AA compared to the native Spotify app, so sometimes I might actually use the native Spotify. I've tried the native infotainment for quite some time, I can't say that I had any issues whatsoever, my experience was stable and intuitive, but I prefer being able to view my phone notifications on screen as well as preconfigure my trip on Google maps on my phone and have it ready to go as soon as I jump in the car. I would like Netflix so I can watch a show while charging and better YouTube integration.

why do you prefer waze? Is it more accurate when it comes to traffic?

Blanchy90 2026-02-03 22:59

Yes I find it's much better for traffic, hazards on the route, police etc. Also it suggests better routes

Knackazz 2026-02-03 23:56

Android Auto - Waze, Spotify, Audible, ABC for listening to bluey when kids are in the car, ABC grandstand for the NRL.

How to say you're an Aussie without saying you're an Aussie. 😄

Aurora store is a life saver. It's very easy to install apps. Better to use ut than Gbox

Eyeshield_sena 2026-02-04 04:27

Got CarPlay and native apps. Depends on what i want to use. Native apps such as Aurora store, brave browser, youtube premium revance, waze, netflix, shazam, google map, spotify (byd app)

proxiblue 2026-02-04 05:26

Android auto. only. That loads Waze for navigation and Spotify. The furstration tho is that if teh phone disconnects from local network (dead spots as i drive), it also disconnect on the car, so music stop, navigation drops out. usually only a few seconds, but it is just shit. Don't use any apps on the car, as well, that will eventually stop working and need a data plan, so not going to make myself dependant on it. I get in my car, use navigation and listen to music a I drive. No need for any more apps. I have a phone for that.

proxiblue 2026-02-04 05:27

DO you also have the disconnect issue? If phone looses GSM network, dead spots as I drive, it also disconnects from the car. I was told to use a cable, but that kinda defeats the ease of use.

Visible-Cress1328 2026-02-04 05:40

Netflix is available?

Eyeshield_sena 2026-02-04 06:16

Gotta unlock the sideapp permission first

Environmental_Value3 2026-02-04 06:21

Android auto usually is enough , earlier when I first got the car I downloaded an app called gbox which let's you pretty much install anything to the car (it's illegal).

Blanchy90 2026-02-04 11:25

I've never had that happen

proxiblue 2026-02-04 11:34

Interesting, wonder if just area where i live (I can literal predict when it will disconnect, dead signal spots here and there, always same places). Maybe my android model (oppo) and its BT stack, if not a common issue.

proxiblue 2026-02-04 11:36

Not illegal, just voids your warranty. illegal is about breaking the law, unless you live in a country where such things are governed by actual criminal law?

LenweM 2026-02-04 12:05

Same here, but now I'm using the native navigation and spotify

proxiblue 2026-02-04 12:07

The thing is, eventually you need to pay for a subscription. Life has become a frikkin subscription, and when / if I can, I avoid it. So, not just me. Waze just works better.

Accomplished-Sun3166 2026-02-04 13:16

How do you install Aurora ? As im new to the BYD SEAL 2025 & would love to able to have more apps

Accomplished-Sun3166 2026-02-04 13:18

How do you do that ?

Ja9_Norway 2026-02-04 15:38

Wondering the same.. got netflix installed no problem.. but it will not start..

_ytrohs 2026-02-04 15:45

CarPlay.

LenweM 2026-02-04 16:56

Absolutely. I meant that I had the same problem you had, so I need to use the native stuff. I agree with you.

redbearddev 2026-02-05 00:27

Basically, the built-in navigation app, from time to time Google Maps, and Spotify! 🤷‍♂️😊

Sideload YouTube & waze. So i can listen to random football podcast while driving.

Environmental_Value3 2026-02-12 14:56

Illegal as in getting you traffic tickets like if you install Netflix and YouTube you could use them as if they were on a regular tablet ( works while driving and can type freely whenever)

proxiblue 2026-02-12 23:31

Yeah, it is illegal to USE them, whilst driving. So is your phone. it is not illegal to install them. Your comment implied it is illegal to install them. It is not. Using and installing are two very different things here.
