Can't get rid of "Spotify is playing" notification

danieltheisland | 2026-01-31 17:25 | 29 views

Hi all. Have a BYD Dolphin 2024 model and since I've had it every time Spotify is running there is a pointless notification to tell me that "Spotify is running" and it can't be dismissed. I've blocked notifications from Spotify and some generic Spotify service (see photos) but it still remains. Any idea how to get rid of it? Thanks!

Seems to be a android thing in general, my phone does the same

I thought it was an Android Auto problem at first but this is actually a system notification for the media unit in the car. Not from the phone or related to Android Auto. Same level of notification as for a language package or system update.

I think they're referring to the fact that the OS that BYD uses is Android-based. I get it as well.

nothing to do with android auto. its just a regular android notification

If you have Spotify Connect, the app identifies that you are playing through your phone and show the notification, like it does on the Watch, for example.

Same issue

The notification isn't from Spotify itself, it's at the system level, perhaps because that media controller appears to be disabled.

I see the same kind of persistent notification with Spotify on other Android-based systems too — even in the notification list on Fire TV devices — so it’s very likely coming from Spotify’s own background service rather than the car itself. On my BYD Seal U DM-i, it behaves the same way: as soon as Spotify has an active session (even just in the background), the system treats it like an ongoing media playback notification, and those are often designed to be non-dismissible. If you’ve already blocked standard notifications and it’s still there, it’s probably tied to Spotify’s “active media session” / Connect service, which many Android-based systems don’t let you fully silence. I haven’t dug deeper on my side either, but from what I’ve seen this looks more like Spotify being overly persistent than a BYD-specific issue.

Thank you for looking into it. Appreciate the detailed response.

It behaved like this prior to messing around with disabling notifications

Can we uninstall Spotify from the car?
