Dolphin Surf Update 2.1

GreyDrReddit | 2026-02-13 12:57 | 26 views

I have a BYD Dolphin Surf Comfort (aka Seagull). It’s great but I miss Auto AC (climate control). It’s annoying they didn’t put a thermostat in the car because it can already control fans and temperature so if it had a simple $1 thermostat, they could have then simply worked on climate control as a software update. Since the car doesn’t know the temperature, climate control will never happen for this model :( Anyway, that means I have to manually control the temperature which is a massive pain in UK winter because the windows constantly steam up. Throughout a journey I have to keep fan on windscreen until I get too hot, then turn temp and fans down until it steams up, then repeat. This was manageable until the 2.1 update. They have removed the fan speed and temp settings from the main screen! They replaced with TWO identical temperature bars!? I now cant see the fan speed or temp from the main screen and have to go into settings to see and adjust them. Just letting others know you might not want this update if you use fan and temp settings a lot. Probably less of an issue in climates where the car doesn’t steam up.

Noooo I scheduled the update for this morning while I am at work 🤦‍♂️

Domesk 2026-02-13 13:03

This really makes no sense

Haunting_Intern7023 2026-02-13 13:03

Yeah in still trying to get my head around this one. A work around is the three finger gesture, up and down for temperature setting, left and right for fan speed

GreyDrReddit 2026-02-13 13:22

The work around I’m using is to learn to speak in an American accent so I can use voice control :) I can control fan speed and temp via voice now!

kritsku 2026-02-13 13:34

I thought we got 2 separate zones as soon as I saw the two bars... But they just move in tandem. It's probably a bug as it makes no sense at all.

May I kindly ask what the “adaptive front light” is for?

deSenna24 2026-02-13 16:00

If it's got dual zone you can probably unlink them in the climate control options

Separate-Simple6086 2026-02-13 16:16

I just had the update and I’m with you on the changes to the HVAC display no longer showing fan speed on the Home Screen. In the update noted it mentions an outside temp display being added, I certainly can’t see any sign of that. Also they mentioned the ACC would automatically adjust the speed depending on bends in the road. No evidence of that either!!!

Separate-Simple6086 2026-02-13 16:17

NOPE

LSDand2Es 2026-02-13 16:25

Adaptive headlight full beam, dips just after you've blinded the oncoming driver

LSDand2Es 2026-02-13 16:26

They would all be good features, I might wait for 2.2😃

marcseid 2026-02-13 17:04

You can see the outside temperature on the "behind the steering wheel screen" https://www.reddit.com/r/BYD/s/jlLD2V2zoC

Trender07 2026-02-13 18:03

I have same problem and it’s Spain not even UK weather it’s insane byd

R-Mutt1 2026-02-13 18:14

The driver controls both but passenger can be adjusted independently.

Vast_Percentage1537 2026-02-13 18:51

Urgh! Gonna have to put off updating for as long as I can. I really don’t like that change. 😕

kritsku 2026-02-13 19:27

They can't, I just tested this. Sliders move together no matter which one you move.

R-Mutt1 2026-02-13 19:33

Bizarre. Every other car I've owned with buttons worked like that.

FantiR24 2026-02-13 19:36

Not visible on my car after the update (UK)

FantiR24 2026-02-13 19:40

No fan speed and no outside temperature after update (UK)

kritsku 2026-02-13 20:25

I doubt Dolphin Surf can do 2 zones. It's probably a bug and one of the sliders should have been fan speed as it was in v2.0.0

R-Mutt1 2026-02-13 20:29

The climate settings screen has left and right temperature sliders too

Suntzu_AU 2026-02-14 03:14

Yeah, I was thinking about this as my second EV to go with my Atto 3, but in Australia, drive away, it's about $31,000 drive way or about $22,000 USD. And those missing basic features like climate control and a few other things where they could have really knocked it out of the park - just makes it unviable for me. I don't want to screw around doing stuff. It's the little things that annoy you day to day. I think I will buy the Atto 3 EVO and use my OG 2022 Atto 3 as a supermarket basher.

kritsku 2026-02-14 03:37

They behave the same way. They are locked together no matter which one you move.

R-Mutt1 2026-02-14 16:03

Oh wow. Maybe my last few cars have been higher spec. Probably a W reg Rover was the last that didn't have dual zone climate control

AngleProfessional767 2026-02-16 14:53

my biggest issue with update is that the car still fogs like crazy. I get a headache from AC but if i leave it out the cabin inside the car is one big mist and fog fest. So i have to put it on, burning battery and getting a headache while i dont want that. I thought that was getting updated with this update but i dont believe its a software issue anymore. I think its just the way the car is build, they didnt really think about colder climates or something. For the rest i dont mind the update nor the car itself. Driving is great fun

GreyDrReddit 2026-02-16 15:15

Yes its a real shame you have to fiddle with fans and temps throughout a journey, it does spoil the drive. All they had to do is install thermostats and they could have worked on climate control as a software update. I guess they deliberately omit features from lower models to make the more expensive models look better 🤷

GreyDrReddit 2026-02-16 15:18

Yes the car is great apart from that. It does seem that they haven’t tested the car in a variety of climates and conditions. Another example is LDA (lane departure assist). Im sure it works fine in China but in the UK countryside it tries to steer the car into potholes and ditches.

AngleProfessional767 2026-02-16 17:49

in the Netherlands the LDA works just fine, but i dont trust it blindly ofcourse. Except from the fogging (and maybe the lack of a heatpump) the car is great imo. I assume in China the temperature is almost never around 0. I thought it was software matic but i do think now its the way the car is build that causes the car too fog. I always just put a window on backside partly open now, dehumidifier bags dont work at all in my experience.
