Yes it’s normal. No you shouldn’t replace that pad.
No problems here.
Yep, that's perfectly normal
Totally fine! For a 2-year-old Atto 3, what you’re seeing is pretty normal. The rusty bits are just surface rust on the bare steel parts of the rotor and around the centre/axle opening, which happens fast on EVs and in humid or coastal areas. The important part is the shiny ring where the brake pad actually touches the disc—that looks fine and is what really matters. You only need to worry if the rust gets thick and flaky, the wheel doesn’t sit flat, you see cracks or deep pits in the disc, or you start feeling vibrations or hearing grinding when you brake. Otherwise, it’s basically just cosmetic.
Thank you for the response, this really helps! I confirm that this is in a humid country. I was concerned because, in addition to the cosmetic rust, the car has been squeaking at slow speeds. The shop would have it greased and the squeaking would go away for a week and then return. Not sure how to resolve it long term
I have Sealion 7 only for 6 months and there’s very minor brake squeak (10% of times when braking) which annoys me given my OCDness. BYD mixes friction and regen breaking early (it’s a good design actually) which means we hear squeak more often if there’s underlying cause. Of course nothing to worry about. In my past experience with other cars grease isn’t perfect solution, anti squeak paste is specifically formulated for that so give it a try if grease hasn’t worked. Alternatively replacing brake pads potentially with softer material. Brake pads on EVs last very long time but also they’re not too expensive to replace if it impacts your ownership experience.
I hear squeaking too in my two year old Atto 3. Brake pads wear and tear seems to be more pronounced than in Kia EVs for example. This is what I heard from the local dealer. I can't remember exactly what's the change interval for the pads - perhaps something like 50-60kms.
Normal rust yes, I’d replace the pads though as you stated it’s “chipped” it’ll likely cause uneven wear or come apart even more from that area
Mine are like that after 5 month of UK driving, surface.rust after 24 hrs
my 2y service tried to get 1200€ to change pads and discs... 17k/km driven... after small argument got those free. pad were all gone and also broke discs... no sounds or warnings.
Did you ever own a car before?
Typical of any car ev or not, have an expensive chevy ice and its worse
Normal. Steel brakes.. Not stainless steel
Looks fine to me. I live on a salt water river with my atto 3 and it's fine.
