Atto3 charging rate

I just wanted to confirm my understanding. Got my Atto3 today. I have an 11kw 3-phase wall charger. My understanding is that the Atto3 can only handle 7kw. I can only get about 3.4kw with the charger so I assume that is limiting to a single phase. So if I had bought a 7kw single phase charger instead of a 11kw 3-phase I would actually be able to charge faster?

Yes. Are you considering swapping a new unit in? Keep in mind that 11kW runs on a 20A breaker and wires, whereas 7kW 1P runs on a 40A breaker and wires, so think about whether your circuit is capable of handling the load or it needs to be upgraded.

Thanks. Not considering changing just didn’t expect this would be an issue. My PHEV also limits to max 3.4kw so was just expecting I would get faster charging.

11kW 3 phase is 3x 3.6kW (16A) phases. As the atto 3 is single phase it's only connecting to L1 and as such getting a single 15A circuit. To get 7kW you'll need a 32A circuit which will probably require new cable pulled through to the switchboard and a new breaker. Otherwise a 22kW 3 phase charger would get you every option. as it's 3x32A phases aka 7.2kW/phase totalling 22kW. Again would need upgrades to the cabling and so on

Honestly I feel like getting a 7kW charger would be a worthwhile investment, for me personally, the 7kW charger helps me gain about 40km/h which is a huge difference from 20km/h. Also, is the PHEV an Outlander? Seems to be a common australian preference.

No MG HS EV+. It limits any charging to 3.4kw though so nothing to do with the charger. I got an MG wall charger when I got that car as a novated lease and had the choice between 7kw or 11kw so I got the 11 since I had 3-phase but didn’t realise there would be limitations in the future.

3.4kW is expected with 16A single phase charging. The better option would have been to get a 22kW charger installed. Quite a few vehicles limit to 16A charging on 3-phase anyway but you get the flexibility of still being able to do 32A single phase

I get 7kW out of my 22kW charger without issue. The Atto only receives 7kW though. Something wrong with your installation or charger settings.
