I was keen to look at one at Everything Electric in Melbourne a few weeks ago, but unfortunately they didn't have one on display. I did sit in the Atto2 and hated it, that was the only new release car BYD had there.
My opinion is that, it's a good, strong, and cheap box on wheels that carries 4 people pretty spaciously. However, the infotainment is dead slow and frankly I wouldn't trust any high level ADAS on BYD anyways, so, it's something that's super cheap, has good enough space, but has not as soft of an interior finish as other competitors, and because it's more like a box it has highway noise. But it's a nice city runabout, and gets a little more niceties at higher trims.
We’ll find out in the next couple of weeks. I think the premium models going to be really nice value especially for first EV owners. Base models probably a nice basic chore runner good for a 2nd car and battery storage.
In my view, its cheap but not necessarily good value. Few things about the essential. 1. No battery cooling, this is something the Nissan Leaf suffered from and the degradation in the battery is signficantly higher. 2. Range is 220km vs 310km on the Premium. 3. 0-100 is 11.1 seconds vs 9.1 in the Premium. 11 second 0-100 is slow.. by any measure. 4. 30kw vs 43.2kw battery and faster charging in the premium. 5. No heated seats! In Australia the premium is $4K more, but I think its worth it for what you're getting. But if you're spending 28K, the dolphin is just over the horizon and to me a much better car. And if I was spending 28K, second hand model 3's start to look really attractive too.
Why'd you hate it? (the Atto 2)
