BYD Seal U EV – CV joint ticking at 9,000 km & dealer refusing warranty because my car is imported. What should I do?

Hey everyone, I’m dealing with a strange (and honestly frustrating) situation with my **BYD Seal U EV** and I’m hoping someone here has experience with this. Here’s what happened: I own a **BYD Seal U EV Comfort**, originally delivered for the **German/European market**, but I’m currently living in **Tunisia**. The car has around **9,000 km**, always driven normally, no accidents, nothing unusual. Recently, I started hearing a **ticking/clicking noise when turning** — exactly the kind of sound a failing CV joint makes. I took the car to the official BYD dealer in Tunisia. They checked it and confirmed: **“Yes, the noise is coming from the CV joint.”** But then they told me they **won’t repair it under warranty** because the car was **imported from Germany**, even though it’s still fully under warranty and the exact same model is sold locally here. I reached out to BYD Germany and BYD Europe, asking them to authorize BYD Tunisia to fix the defect under warranty, but so far, I haven't gotten an answer yet. To make things worse, I’ve seen Seal U owners online mentioning similar ticking noises, so it feels like this might be a real manufacturing or component defect. So I’m asking the community: * Has anyone else had **CV joint issues** on the Seal U EV? * If you imported your BYD, how did warranty service work in your country? * Should I keep pushing BYD Germany, BYD Europe, or escalate to someone else? * Is BYD Tunisia obligated to repair it since the defect is confirmed? I really like the car, and BYD was supposed to be the “reliable EV brand,” so this situation is honestly disappointing. Any advice from people who’ve gone through this would be super appreciated. Thanks 🙏

I asked my BYD dealer about this scenario with my car. I was told I had to pay for it and then claim the money when I returned.

yes, the local importer wont cover the warranty for cars they didn't sell. this is completely normal and just what you get for grey importing things.

I had the ticking CV after only 600 miles from new. It sounded like the CV joint but BYD actually issued a service bulletin on this and the fix was something to do with removing material from the inside of the alloy where it meets the hub. Once they did it on my car the ticking went away. I’m based in the UK. Plenty of other owners here with the same issue, must have been a factory issue given we’ve all had the same problem
