I’ve recently bought an Atto 3 and have a 16kw Sigenergy battery. Currently granny charging but would like to go a bit faster - what would people suggest for AC chargers? Not sure the Sigenergy DC charger represents good value as yet

I would recommend sticking with the same ecosystem. With sigenergy AC charger ~ you will be able to do smarts like discharge home battery to 20% into the car each evening, or when your home battery reaches 90% start charging the car instead if plugged. Also you can set it to use solar power only. If you go for a cheaper brand they just won't be talking to each other unless you get into home assistant automation stuff

Have you looked at upgrading to a 15A granny charger? I’m waiting on my atto3 and that’s what I’m thinking. Already have outlet in garage installed. No battery but do have solar.

I wouldn't pay the premium for the Sigenergy charger, it's just not worth it. Just grab a cheap 7kW one that you can program for solar excess production and grid use.

why do you say it's not worth it? I have a sig battery arriving soon but skipped the charger for now as there's no rebate on it, but am looking to get it later due to the 22kw charge rate. and hopefully it'll drop in price

I got quotes with Sigenergy and it was just too expensive for me. I'm on three phase. In the end I got a 40kWh ALPHA battery with a 5kW inverter AC coupled to my existing 13kW and my Fronius. They offered me the Sigenergy charger and I think it was about $4,000 which is just too much money. I am charging my BYD via my Benny Solar and Grid Aware 22kw 3P charger which I installed 3 years ago for $1700 all up which is a hell of a bargain. I have charged the BYD from the battery but it's very inefficient once you account for losses. Though if you need to do it, it's okay. Because got a 16kWh battery, I wouldn't worry about trying to charge the car from that. It's just not going to make any sense most days. So then why would you pay the $4,000 for the SIG Energy Charger? Maybe the price has come down since I got quoted.

Twice as fast as granny charger 10A

Roughly 1.5 times faster, most you can get out of 10A is around 2.2kW whilst 15A will get you around 3.4kW allowing for losses. Charging a 40kWh battery at 2.2kW will take around 18hrs whilst at 3.4kW it will only take around 12hrs which could work overnight. Obviously bigger batteries will take longer but you won’t often be going from 0 to 100%. More likely you just want to top up what you’ve used and 15A means you’re more likely to fit that into your charging window.
