New Atto 1 VS Used Atto 3

Corrupttothethrones | 2026-02-02 07:51 | 39 views

For sale are 2023 Atto 3 around the same price and a new premium Atto 1. Is there any reason to not just buy a used Atto 3 on NL? Still lots of warranty left, depreciation has slowed and seems to have better premium features. The infotainment unit is still just an android tablet with a simper UI. I test drove all 3, Atto 1 premium is nice but Atto 3 seems to have better everything.

Atto 3 seems to be reliable and have all the tech in the extended range version, so I don't see why not if you need a bigger car with more range for less.

Does a newer 2026 Atto 1 Premium have anything that would be considered better than a 2023 Atto 3 ER? It seems like the 3 has longer range, same charging speed, higher VL2. I thought maybe the Atto 1 might have a better warranty or better lane assist.

Corrupttothethrones 2026-02-02 08:20

I was hoping the driving experience on the Atto 1 was similar to my Mini Cooper but the seat height is so high that it still feels like driving an Atto 3.

net_fish 2026-02-02 08:38

Only thing to consider is that if it's a pre MY24 Atto 3 it'll need a charging harness fix if you want to use it on Tesla DC chargers. I've seen people get quotes for the work ranging from $300 to $700 You can tell them externally fairly easily. MY22 and MY23 have a silver panel behind the passenger door, 12" infotainment screen and says "build your dreams" across the back. MY24 has a black panel, 15" screen and says "BYD" across the back. Otherwise The atto 3 will give you more range and a slightly bigger car.

It has a green colour option and it is super cute! It is also much smaller so it is easier to park and much easier to drive on the narrow streets. It is a perfect second car. If it is going to be your only car that will be used for weekend trips then atto 3 or atto 2 would be the way to go.

Corrupttothethrones 2026-02-02 08:50

I was honestly hoping it was smaller, the ride height is similar to the Atto 3. Its a weird tall thin short car, i wanted something closer to my Mini Cooper. It just seems like a secondhand Atto 3 is better for the price than a new Atto 1 if you want premium features and range.

Hopefully the firefly can be the small fun affordable EV we all deserve

EVRicho 2026-02-02 10:04

Atto 3 isn't overly energy efficient especially at highway speeds. Also the AC charging is slower and it doesn't have digital key. But the 3 does have more features overall.

ATangK 2026-02-02 10:23

Atto 3 is a reasonably specced car, especially the older used 2023 models which came with everything. Atto 1 is a budget model.

TheOGcubicsrube 2026-02-02 10:43

The atto 1 is a lighter and fun car to drive. I prefer the interior design. It's smaller so easier to park. But if you want more range and boot space or you frequently have people in the back, an atto 3 would likely suit your need also.

I looked at a new Atto 2 and Atto 1, I settled on a used 2023 Atto 3. For me it came down the the size and range of the Atto 3 vs the other 2. Yes the the 1.5kW granny charger is painfully slow but a 7kW AC charger will apparently charge it from empty in approx 8 hrs, a 22kW in 3 or less. The Atto 3 is our second car, we have a 21 Pajero Sport for long trips. The PS used to be our main car for driving around town, now my wife takes it to work 3 days a week otherwise it sits idle most of the time. I drive the Atto 3 to work 5 days a week and we use it when ever we go out as a family, it has overtaken the PS. This has reduced fuelling the PS from fortnightly to almost Monthly I've not had a need to use Tesla chargers, all I've done is use a 55kW Chargefox to test it out, otherwise I charge via the 1.5kw granny charger, I am getting a 22kW charger installed in a few months for convenience. For me the Atto 3 Pros are: 1. Better range, just don't expect it to get the 400km plus advertised range. 2. Vehicle size. 3. It has fairly decent tech and features 4. Reduced depreciation. The cons are: 1. Interior is dated compared to the newer models 2. Full 6 year and 8 year warranty on new models 3. 2 years of BYD connectivity on new models. Note the app including remote start etc work for free even after the free 2 years is over. All in all I have no regrets pucking the Atto 3, I've owned it 2 months now and so far it is a great car to drive.

bladez_edge 2026-02-02 12:06

Atto 1 is a smaller car it's roughly picanto size. Like a SUV shaped hot hatch. Atto 3 is maybe Kia Seltos size. All BYDs have the same warranty. You'll need to potentially buy data for the Atto 3 because the included monthly data pack may have lapsed. Notice size 1 smallest then Atto 2 Then Atto 3

Corrupttothethrones 2026-02-02 12:24

Yeah it looks pretty Kool, it I get one I'll name it Serenity.

Corrupttothethrones 2026-02-02 12:27

On my test drive it felt like the Atto 3 had better high end acceleration while the Atto 1 was quicker to 60. It's fun but still feels like a boat. I guess it's all sitting on a battery pack so can't be too low to the ground. I guess Id be willing to sacrifice some range itlf it actually felt like a small car.

Corrupttothethrones 2026-02-02 12:33

I've tested them all and already own an Atto 3. The Atto 1 didn't feel dramatically smaller than the 3 in terms of ride height.

Corrupttothethrones 2026-02-02 12:38

For reference, I already have a 2023 Atto 3, bought new and have driven 50000km. I have gotten 450km going 60kmph. 99% charged at home on solar. Our second car is a Mini Cooper so I hoped an Atto 1 would be a good swap in. I was willing to sacrifice range if it was a small car but it just felt like a less premium thinner Atto 3. I do like the seperated centre console and simpler tablet UI.

TinyDemon000 2026-02-02 22:05

These are two very different cars. The ATTO 1 is a city run around with low range. It won't tolerate motorways for very long due to its size and range. Personally I wouldn't be putting a baby seat in the Atto1 either due to its size. The atto 3 will happily take you on some motorway runs and get you further with less stress. What do you need the car for.

mikedufty 2026-02-03 02:15

Just buy the Atto3 privately, the savings on not paying GST worked out as good as a novated lease for me without all the stuffing around.

Corrupttothethrones 2026-02-03 02:54

My employer offers NL on new and used cars so they do all the work and i get all the tax savings.

proxiblue 2026-02-03 03:55

You can't really compare them. They are not the same model/class. Is like comparing an i20 to the i30

Nos_4r2 2026-02-03 05:31

The Atto1 will work on v3/v4 Tesla Superchargers, while the 2023 Atto 3 likely won't unless it's had the retrofitted hardware to make it work..

Corrupttothethrones 2026-02-03 05:38

I think BYD offer a repair for that issue now. I already have another Atto 3 and never needed to use a Tesla charger outside of the one at Woolshed in Williams WA but there are other fast chargers 500m down the road.

Nickexp 2026-02-04 06:31

Buy data? What's this about?

bladez_edge 2026-02-04 19:13

Most vehicles have a 2 year 2gb monthly data plan included from purchase. Some app functions rely on tis data. 2023 Atto 3 data plan would have lapsed. Atto 1 essential doesn't come with data. You can buy data from the shop under my account in the app if you don't have active monthly data plan anymore. I don't know if you can buy it/top up if you go over your 2gb allowance during the first 2 included years.

Nickexp 2026-02-04 20:06

That's fucked lol, I'd just use Android Auto but good to know this is something I need to think about.

Suntzu_AU 2026-02-06 00:36

I reckon you're probably right. A used Atto 3, maybe one or two years old is a better buy. Much more comfortable, better interior, quicker, better range.

Corrupttothethrones 2026-02-06 01:47

Crazy that the Atto 3 is faster considering its size. The Atto 1 certainly feels faster at 0-60kmph.

Suntzu_AU 2026-02-06 04:23

I just drove my sister-in-law's dolphin premium and it's an absolute weapon with the Atto 3 drivetrain.

Get ChatGPT to do a side by side comparison and provide you a pro/con summary. Decide from there.

Welly-question 2026-02-06 18:34

The need for Tesla chargers is really overstated. Never needed one.

net_fish 2026-02-06 21:53

I'd agree a large proportion of drivers will virtually never use a public charger. In my own situation I've used public chargers around 60 times in 18 months and a quarter of those sessions were on Tesla chargers. I could have absolutely used a different brand charger if I didn't have access to the Tesla network. Main reason I use them is because they were the most convenient to get to on my most common drives. I just do a massive amount of driving and for a trip to Melbourne it's a almost universal requirement for me to top up before heading home. The newish Tesla Pakenham site is stupidly easy to get to heading east. I used to use the BP or Evie chargers on Stud Rd but in comparison they are a pain to get to and more expensive. The Evie units are Gen 1 Tritiums so it's a gamble if they even work and BP only has one unit and I've been 5 mins out from it a number of times to watch it go busy Now if we had more public level 2 chargers in public car parks I'd virtually never need a DC charger.

Kabal303 2026-02-13 22:52

As someone who just bought an atto1.. get the 1 if you genuinely want a small city car. If it’s a compromise based on what you can afford get something used.

Corrupttothethrones 2026-02-13 23:29

I figured that I was sacrificing range to get a small car so when I drove it I was surprised how big it is. Was hoping for Mini Cooper EV size.
