Atto 3 Evo - opinion

Business_Resource741 | 2026-03-02 21:36 | 32 views

Hi everyone, this model is still quite new but I’d love to hear your thoughts as a BYD owner. I don’t own an electric car and I’ve only had three test drives so far. First up was the Atto 3 Evo, which felt great overall. The motor was pretty responsive, some buttons I could click which was nice to have but the only downside I noticed was the relatively narrow windshields. This obstructed my view while driving. Then I tried the Tesla Model Y and 3. The Y was quite disappointing as an SUV; it didn’t feel particularly different from other cars. However, the Tesla 3 made me feel like I was driving exceptionally smoothly and had very wide view angles. I’d love to hear any thoughts you have on these cars. Thanks!

Have you tried the upgraded lane keep assist and cruise control yet. And has the suspension improved. Probably won’t be released here in Australia until the second half of the year.

Fuzzy-Satisfaction37 2026-03-02 22:37

I have an Atto 3 at the moment and I’ll be upgrading to the Evo when it arrives in Australia. Absolutely love mine but AWD is the only thing I felt was really missing.

Try the Seal if you liked the model 3

SavvyGent 2026-03-03 10:09

Not to highjack the thread, but has anyone heard rumours of a Seal U Evo? Love our Seal U, but it has its obvious flaws. If it got the same Evo treatment, I would be very excited!

Atto 3 EVO is also new on chinese market, and they've replaced Seal U (Song Plus) with Sealion 06 last year so don't expect Seal U EVO, and there's also Song Ultra: [https://carnewschina.com/2026/03/03/byd-song-ultra-ev-breaks-cover-ahead-of-march-5-pre-sales/](https://carnewschina.com/2026/03/03/byd-song-ultra-ev-breaks-cover-ahead-of-march-5-pre-sales/) which looks like facelifted Seal U. But ... with BYD cars in Europe ... don't expect anything, there is what there is :D = analyze present offer without expectations about new models. P.S. Seal U is the worst car that i've driven - i have it as an exchange car for 10 days now (for the past 20 years i owned around 15 cars) - it's about handling / cornering / driving performance, unbelievably poor. Other than that the car is fine, but the driving performance is awful (i've set all settings to Sport just from the start so the steering experience is not so "light"), i let my gf drive it all the time now and i "drive" as a passenger - a tip for you: never buy an EV with FWD.

Which country has Atto 3 EVO already available? If you focus on driving performance it's either Tesla 3 or BYD Seal. In Denmark Tesla 3 Standard has a very good price +- 36 000 EUR, BYD Seal +-42500 EUR but i can see that Seal Design cost in Germany 49000 EUR? oO If the price difference is not that big then the BYD Seal is a better offer than 3 Standard, but 49000 vs. 36000 is a huge difference to take into consideration.

Atto 3 Evo is available in Spain since last week, there is a small stock available, more to come in June I was told. I drove it twice now and it’s a nice car but not sure how fast it goes. I managed to drive up to 110km/h not more than that due to traffic, but I think it’s a nice car but a bit heavy.

SavvyGent 2026-03-03 21:22

Thanks for the update. That Song Ultra doesnt look good to me at all unfortunately. I've heard all the complaints about the Seal U EV, and I agree the driving performance is about as good as a bathtub on Wheels, but despite that I just love the car. Can't help it. Would be nice if it drove well too though. Thats why I was hoping for a "stealth" update to an Evo, making it RWD, faster charging etc that doesnt change the looks or interior.

I also chose a BYD Seal over a Tesla Model 3. Try the Seal if you liked the Model 3.

I've had an Atto 3 for about three years. I think it's quite well balanced with the power in the handling for its intended purpose as a shopping trolley. I think the 230kW rear-wheel drive EVO is going to be borderline overpowered and I definitely think the all-wheel drive will be over the top as I don't think it's got the handling chops to do it. I certainly encourage you to buy one, I just got a funny feeling it just won't manage 390kw properly. There's a review out today by Nicola and she said that 230kW is borderline for it.

Fuzzy-Satisfaction37 2026-03-04 07:55

You could be right but power isn’t the draw for me. I’m really just after the AWD for weather/road conditions. As a bonus, I love the new styling as well. Not thrilled about the column shifter, and would have liked massage front seats as well but I think I’ll still be getting one anyway.

Suntzu_AU 2026-03-04 07:58

Totally got you. I 100% agree with the column shifter, what a stupoid move. I wish they had memory seat.

Ryan_Siris 2026-03-05 03:37

feel you about the shifter, i got a DENZA N7 which is equipped with a beautiful carved crystal console shifter just like the one in Z9GT. But the column shifter is commonly considered a move to free up more space in the center console for like cup holders and wireless chargers, that's why every OEM is riding this trend. imo it's not really necessary, but some friends of mine have told me the column shifter's been growing on them...

Ryan_Siris 2026-03-05 03:52

Same opinion on the Ultra, the exterior could use some facelift as it's pretty similar to another model Song L EV (3 yrs old) in Chinese market. Just for some information, the Seal U (Song Plus) was actually put under the ocean network instead of Dynasty network like other sibling Song models, and just as mentioned by car\_Seal above it has now been renamed as Sealion 06 (not the same model as in, say Australian market, where Sealion 06 is still the older Seal U / Song Plus), and cancelled the Song Plus model for good. So unfortunately, there will be no further upgrade to the Seal U. But definitely expect new models that are even better, the proper Sealion 06 (an incoming stealth upgrade version) got 270kw RWD and possibly 2nd generation of flash charging (megawatts charging), most likely launching on an event next week.

Fuzzy-Satisfaction37 2026-03-05 07:19

Love the crystal shifter in the Denza, the slow rise it does is awesome. Probably annoying in real life use but looks super cool.

Hi, I'm a bit in a doubt. I can choose between the BYD ATTO3 EVO Excellence or the BYD SEAL U Design. In my opinion it has both strong and 'negative' points. Please convince me to pick the right choice!

Business_Resource741 2026-03-05 15:21

I went with the Evo. I got convinced by the SUV factor and software. I had no plan to get the Seal but I was more looking at Tesla 3. I don’t know about the seal but probably is more comparable to Tesla model 3?

Electrical-Pay401 2026-03-05 15:27

yes, the Seal is more Tesla Model 3, the Seal U is the SUV version. Pricewise is both similar. Only the SEAL U Design is already available, The Evo can be ordered in Belgium by end of this month https://preview.redd.it/dml68m5qv8ng1.png?width=616&format=png&auto=webp&s=ae0055cd5b9734729af028cde619b809e79c6fb6

Business_Resource741 2026-03-05 15:28

Aaah I see, well what about mileage? Can it do the same as the evo? Also does it accept fast charge up to 220kw?

Electrical-Pay401 2026-03-05 15:29

As I read top speed (in Belgium) for these are limited at 200 km/h, 3.7 sec to 100km/h

Electrical-Pay401 2026-03-05 15:32

If I choose the EVO, I will take the Excellence version, as for the panoramic roof is amazing for my two-year old son. but this means the AWD, mileage will be +-470-500?, the SEAL U Design has a range (on paper) of 510, so that is almost the same. Quickcharging will be better with the EVO.

Business_Resource741 2026-03-05 15:35

Yes mileage will be lower on AWD version. It all depends really on your needs, I wanted also quick charge to concern a bit less during trips, that’s another reason why I chose it.

TrueCompetition6694 2026-03-05 18:20

I own a Yuan Pro (Atto 2). Wonderful! Amazing build quality.

Business_Resource741 2026-03-05 18:53

Hi, does anyone know if BYD Atto 3 or similar model has a way to decide automatically when charging to a wallbox? I am interested for example in charging in specific hours of the day to get a cheaper electricity rate and I was wondering if the car could do that autonomously. The wallboxes have different prices and some are more expensive because they are smarter with 4G or WiFi connectivity, I’d like to see if I can save on that. Thanks

Anything_Shubhh 2026-03-07 16:55

Hey there, Atto 3 just resisted a fuking missile blast in Jerusalem.

computinator9000 2026-03-08 17:18

what's with an EV with FWD? why's it bad? I was looking at the Atto 2 which I think is also FWD

[deleted] 2026-03-08 18:01

Atto 2 might have the some problem as Seal U: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxYjSJ3zBgw&t=832s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxYjSJ3zBgw&t=832s) = very light steering performance, so when accelerating + changing lines + light steering .... you practically don't feel the car / no feedback about the wheels. EV has a big torque permanently so when accelerating harder on FWD + light steering = weird feeling and shitty control of the car, it's better with RWD where acceleration axle is separate from steering axle and this configuration gives you more steering feedback. The Seal U was like a bus on a road. There is also very easy to lose grip, as RWD is generally better for acceleration, with FWD the front of the car raises when accelerating. Yes, Atto 2 is a FWD + no height adjustment for passenger seat. It's worth to take a look at Atto 3 EVO and pricing when arrives, in Denmark Atto 3 (2025 facelift) used to cost only 1500 EUR more than Atto 2 (sick).

Suntzu_AU 2026-03-13 04:10

I think you made the right choice. Please let us know once you've got it. I'm really interested in the suspension and handling changes over my existing Atto 3.
